Childhood Fragments is a story by Bosnian author, Berislav Blagojevic that describes the author’s experience of the Yugoslav Wars as seen from the Bosnian side of River Sava.
I was approached by online magazine Schlock to provide one illustration to accompany the story. After familiarising myself with the narrative I felt that I had to emphasise the dark, hostile, menacing environment through an atmospheric, dramatic scene laden with tension.I opted for a black and white palette and chiaroscuro lighting in order to emphasise the actual darkness as well as the foreboding situation described in the story.
