An exploration in minute details and small scale manufacturing.

 

The crafting process involves three bent laminated sections of 1/16th inch walnut and birch veneer pressed in a two part wooden mold. The shades employ a carved center with an inlay for each lens. Lenses were custom traced and manufactured by a local shop in Providence, RI.

 

The hinges were sourced overseas, and plunged into the front frame from the back. They are then secured by an additional horizontal pin, keeping the temples locked firmly in place. The top layer of the veneer covers the pin and inner workings.
