Behance Japan Tokyo Community collaborate with Panasonic "cut out the darkness 2014", the project sending designed solar lanterns to the regions without electricity in Indonesia.

The theme of my work is the endangered animal in Indonesia, "Sumatran Tiger"

In Indonesia,the huge numbers of animals are listed on "IUCN red list" as the endangered animals,like orang-outang, Javan Rhinoceros, Sumatran Tiger.(On IUCN red list 2014, 1202 animals are listed as the endangered animal in indonesia, it means worst 4 in the world.)

And most of the deaths are caused by the illegal hunt and the forest fire (by the human factor).

Before I created this work, I saw the movies and the interviews of this project (the first donation to Sumba Island and also to the other countries) ,and I realized that some of solar lanterns are used when children study at night.

So I decided to draw an endangered animal,and I hope it makes a chance that a child get this lantern will become curious about the animals of his/her own country.

この『CUT OUT THE DARKNESS 2014』は、Behance Japan Tokyo Communityが Panasonicの「CUT OUT THE DARKNESS」という無電化地域(今回はインドネシア)にソーラーランタンを届けるというプロジェクトと連携したものです。今回のテーマは『光の動物園』。

私はモチーフとして、現在レッドリストで絶滅危惧種(近絶滅種)に指定されているスマトラトラを選びました。

インドネシアにはスマトラトラを始め、オランウータン、ジャワサイなど多くの絶滅危惧種が生息しており、
絶滅の原因の多くは密猟や山火事被害など人的要因によるものだそうです。

今回の制作にあたり、前回のスンバ島への寄贈や、それ以前のその他寄贈先へのインタビュー映像を拝見し、子供達が夜間に勉強をする際にこのソーラーランタンを使用するケースが多く見受けられました。

その為、このランタンを手にした子供達が自国の動物や植物を知る機会になればと思い、スマトラトラとトーチジンジャーを選びました。
