My piece is a spherical lamp made of wooden, hexagonal, honeycomb-like cells. But, surely, a sphere could never be composed of hexagons! Of course not! The interior angles of regular polygons allow the hexagons to tessellate perfectly in a plane, not a sphere! Alas, the outer surface of this lamp clearly contains only hexagons and is clearly spherical in form. The secret is that the hexagons are not quite regular, and actually are only merely suggesting the form of a sphere. I intended to created the illusion of regular hexagons forming a sphere, defying the conventions on geometry, taking a rigid logic and a rigid material under my control.
