Artificial Sports Surfacing Sand Infill Test
This was a recent test which we carried out on an artificial sports pitch, we wanted to do a porosity test on the surface. The image above shows the testing equiptment which we use when carrying out tests. The green square is inserted into the artificial turf and then we extract the sand infill by using the scraper and comb and this brings the infill to the top. The hoover then picks all of the dirty sand up and then we test it in the test tubes. This images shows the you the square on the astroturf and you can see where we had placed it to scrape the dirty sand infill. At the top of the astroturf surface, the sand which we have scraped out is now ready to be picked up for us to carry out tests on it. Having contaminated sand infill, can cause drainage problems because the contamination can block the system, which can then cause the pitch to flood. This image is the final stage of the porosity testing, we have collected the sand infill, put in into a test tube and then we added the special mix into it and left it for a day. The specialist mix separated the sand infill, water and clearly shows the contamination, which is at the bottom of the tube. If your pitch has this amount of infill contamination, it is important to carry out specialist maintenance so that your pitch stays in good condition.
