Character Design: The Landlady

This is a character design for a story The Landlady, by Roald Dahl. I wanted to show all steps I made from paper cuts to the final design.

Papercuts are good for finding the right shape and color style for the character.
I made some research on mad women, and how they react. Annie Wilkes from Misery doesn't seem to be very emotional and it is her way of being fricky. On the other hand, Joan Crawford from Mommie Dearest is too emotional and nutty. The third woman is Missy form Doctor Who and I just wanted to experiment with her a little.
I made some sketches from papercuts I liked.
I liked the idea of the hat, so I desided to experiment with it.
Playing with the props: bottle of poison, doorway to the Landlady's house, tea set. This things just help to be more involved into a story.
The final design of Landlady.
