Pistol squats or commonly known as one legged squats might be a common sight for people to observe in gyms and it might look easy to do but it is not that simple as it seems to be. Not only it requires a good amount of strength and a good pistol squat form, but also body balance and flexibility to perform a pistol squat correctly. Now a person might wonder why they must do a pistol squat when it is so complicated while they can just lift weights and gain the required body shape. A pistol squat is a basic exercise which not only activates the core of a person but also brings into action almost all of the muscles present in the lower body of a person; these muscles include hamstrings, glutes along with calves.

There are various steps found at this source to master a pistol squat, a person might be having proper strength to perform a pistol squat but the flexibility and the body balance might create a problem and it’s surprising how most of the athletes and body enthusiasts fail to do a pistol squat in their first attempt. But do not be disheartened as there are several ways of mastering a pistol squat. First off a person will need a support to help them sit down and stand up slowly a support also helps in many cases where people get stuck in the sitting position. It might seem easy to sit down in a pistol squat with one leg in the air and arms stretched forward but it is very difficult to maintain the balance when all the weight of a person gets shifted to a single leg instead of two. The pistol squat challenges the balance of a person as they are shifting the weight of the body to a narrow base and performing an extended range of motion.

Secondly the person can acquire a weight in the hands which are stretched in front of the body to counter balance the back weight of the body, beginning with a larger weight slowly and slowly the weight is to be reduced until a person can slowly sit down and stand up on their own. At this point the pistol squat is mastered, there are numerous other methods to lengthen and ease the above two processes if a person is having excessive difficulty in performing a pistol squat.

A pistol squat can be modified and transformed into many new one legged squats which might also include a person’s unique style of doing a pistol squat. Performing pistol squats is a good way in which a person can balance the strength and flexibility of both the legs along with building great lower body strength in a relatively short duration of time. Usually pistol squats are not appropriate for most of the persons and hence the help of a trainer should be taken in order to build the necessary strength in a pistol squat instead of jumping right to it just to show off a new move.
