    Siphonophora is a machine that can generate heat without using electricity, but only by exploiting the chemical properties of sodium acetate. The purpose of this is to show in an intuitive way, but with particular focus on aesthetics too, this process. The supersaturated solution of sodium acetate goes down to the container at the base through the tubes where it is colored. Reached the end of the trail, the reaction is activated through a crystal of sodium acetate placed inside a pipette which is dropped inside. The acetate crystallizes creating interesting color patterns and gives off heat that melts the ice cube on which is placed the container. Read Less
