My whole teenage life I went to pretty much two concerts every month. I loved pretty much every kind of music and had an amazing time crowd-surfing, moshing and generally leaping around like an idiot to any great band I could find. I'm not complaining: this was a ton of fun and I would probably do it again even knowing what I know now. Heck, I even met my wife at a gig!
Of course though it wasn't all perfect. Going to concerts so regularly definitely took its toll on my finances and didn't leave me many funds available for doing other things. More importantly though, it also apparently took its toll on my hearing and for a while it seemed as though I was going to be stuck with permanently ringing ears…
How it Happened
If you've ever been to a loud gig then you'll know that you come away with ringing ears. If you've ever wondered what's going on, it's basically because your auditory nerves have become so 'excited' that they continue to fire even once the music has stopped. It's like they can't switch off and this is the same phenomenon that causes you to see patches of light when you close your eyes after looking directly at a lamp.
In the short term this ringing ears effect is a little annoying but nothing to worry about. But what you need to bear in mind is that you are also damaging your ears. This is what happened to me and slowly but surely I reached a point where one day the ringing ears just didn't stop. And of course over time this issue only got worse and the noise got louder. Eventually I couldn't even get to sleep…
And this is rather more of a problem than you might at first expect. Not only could I not get to sleep, but I also couldn't concentrate, couldn't think straight and could tolerate any kind of irritation. I became as grumpy as you like and I was constantly exhausted.
Fortunately I was lucky enough to stumble upon a highly effective one-two punch that cured my ringing ears altogether.
The first thing that helped was learning about the psychological aspect of ringing ears. The more you concentrate on your ringing you see, the more importance your brain puts on that noise and the louder it will appear to become. Meanwhile stress causes your senses to heighten and this in turn makes everything seem louder. Not good!
I learned the basics of applying cognitive behavioral therapy and tinnitus retraining therapy to my problem and trying to 'tune out' the ringing to get ringing ears relief. In principle this should work the same way as forgetting the noise of a ticking clock in your bedroom.
Unfortunately though, as my ringing ears were caused by actual damage this was easier said than done. This is when I stumbled upon the other ringing ears treatment that would help me get some peace: Ring Zen.
Ring Zen is a supplement that contains a number of powerful, natural active ingredients designed to help repair the damage to the auditory nerves, reduce inflammation and improve your hearing. This offered me immediate ringing ears relief and it turned out that this was just enough to put me on the right track towards my training.
Ultimately the two combined did the trick for me and I'm now completely noise free! For some people, Ring Zen alone is enough to stop ringing ears but when combined with CBT it's an incredibly effective combination that can help anyone.
