Piano Game - Improved Piano Learning Experience:
Combination of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer System
(Olin College of Engineering)
The goal of our project was to give users the ability to play the piano without any prior knowledge. We created a 9 ft tall wooden projector mount to align the projector over the keyboard. The project ran our own software program, which translated digital music files (MIDI) to a display on the keyboard. The keyboard display consisted of dots that would scroll down the keys to indicate which keys needed to be played and when. This gave the user the ability to play the music with the most appealing rhythm. To improve user experience, incorporated neuroscience research that measured the time a dot would need to be displayed for our user to react to it. The project built off the idea of Guitar Hero, but instead of watching the dots scroll down a screen, we projected them onto a real instrument.
