Scavengers: The SandShark

Rough sketch. Wasn't sure where I was going at this point, but I liked the overall design and perspective.
Cleaning up lines, trying to fix any major perspective issues.
At this point, the car kinda looked like a shark to me, so I roughed in a driver. Wasn't at all happy with the direction this had taken.
Got rid of the driver and decided to finish cleaning up the vehicle. As I was sketching I realized the design kind of resembled an old Datsun 240z merged with a Nissan 300zx. I liked that look and decided to keep it. Minimal reference used for either of those too though.
I knew I wanted a driver, but I still had no good idea of what to do, so I painted the car.
I hardly ever color my stuff in, so I struggled A LOT. Color shemes, lighting, consistency. Went through at least a dozen variations of rough colors and lighting schemes. Pretty happy with where I ended up though. Kept the coloring pretty basic, mostly cell shading because I'm not very good at painting and I wanted to keep 'technique' out of my way as much as possible. I also wanted a very graphic look.
Finally got a good idea for the driver. Roughed it in over the car to make sure it made sense.
Fixing anatomy and changed the head. My wife provided valuable input and said that the 'fro had to stay.
So the 'fro stayed. Cleaned up the character, fixed a few more anatomy things, resized and placed in a better spot.
Flat colors. Same struggles as the vehicle. Lots of iterations and hue changes. Kuler proved an invaluable tool.
Painted the driver. Keeping my lighting consistent was my main focus. I thinks its ok, I need to practice this a lot more though.
Added a simple background to the vehicle.
Pasted in the driver, and called it done.
