    My work deals with the dichotomy of black pigment in images. On one hand, black is a bold, direct, and lavishly beautiful hue. Adversely, black is seen as intimidating, dark, and evil. I think while color does not necessarily describe an individual or community, theses notions of black bleed into perceptions of people with color. The effects of these perceptions have led cultures, in the past and present, to a developing halt, as well as burned a ridiculous image of a kind of people for generations to come. I take that image and make it the key player in my work. The stereotypical way to depict a person of color, African American in particular, becomes ironic in that I don’t display the characters of the images in a stereotypical way, but rather in a manner that reflects Western European art. It then becomes increasingly important for me as an informed artist, to react to this image that has been placed upon me hereditarily and make it into satirical allegory. Read Less
