Storytime: Lightbox project

I wanted to create a project that emphasized the importance of play and imagination in a stylistic way. Play is a huge aspect of childhood, but what about adulthood? I believe that play is important for individuals of all ages as it helps with development and creativity. This project forced me to see beyond the reality in front of me. Some questions I considered while I was editing this image were: "what might the kids be seeing while reading this story?", "what did I find interesting as a child?", "what do I see as unrealistic?". These questions helped me change my perspective and see the image from a child's point of view.

The completed image was printed on translucent paper, mounted to a piece of plexiglass and then placed inside a lightbox I created. The final piece was displayed in an art gallery on campus. It can be viewed in person upon request.
