Wood I Projects

This is a experimentation using a lathe using different types of chisels.
This was a disk made using solely planes, files, and sandpaper. The top and bottom are symmetrical, with the use of a template. The disk was completed with three coats of salad bowl finish.
This is my bent lamination final project. The project requirement was to make a wooden vehicle using the maximum of five wooden laminations. I wanted to do something unique with this project, so I thought about using both the surface and the edge of the lamination. The upper part of the vehicle has the laminations' surface sides up, whereas the lower part of the vehicle has the laminations' edges up. To maintain the tight curves of the laminations in the upper part, I soaked the wooden veneers into hot water prior to clamping into lamination forms. For the lower part I made two laminations with identical forms; then I created a half-lap joint to make the "X" formation. To stabilize the joint, I inserted two walnut blocks (scroll down for detalied image). I deliberately made the wheels concealed and small so that they do not distract the holisitic visual unification of the vehicle.

Finally, this is my carved fruit container final project. My class was given an identically-sized pinewood blocks to complete the project. I wanted to take a unique direction for this project as well; so I thought, instead carving out a classic form of a fruit bowl, it would be more interesting to stand the wood block up vertically and create a vertical fruit container. On the right side of the container I made a storage area for fruit knives. On the left side (The diagonal part of the container), I carved the sides for easier hand grip. Inside of the container, where the fruits are placed, I carved concave forms so that the fruits do not fall out.
