Cutting the pointed edge of a bamboo stick as a preparation for production.
Sanding the edge of the stick to give it a cleaner side.
Cutting the strings according to a desired length in preparation for Lashing.
Doing a multiple overhand as a stopper knot to avoid the string from slipping off.
As an initial step in doing square lashing, a Clove hitch is done.
The sticks are then secured with a wrapping.
To further supplement the strength of the wrapping a frapping is done.
A Diagonal lashing is initiated with a timber hitch.
Same process goes with Diagonal lashing, the wrapping followed by a frapping.
Terms:
Lashing - a process of jointing to or more sticks or spars of wood with a string or rope.
Wrap - is a turn made around the two spars to hold the spars tightly together. Usually, three wraps are made to form a Square Lashing. Some other lashings require more wraps.
Frap - is a turn made between the spars. It goes around the wraps to pull the wraps tighter. Usually two frapping turns are made on a lashing.
Square Lashing - The basic type of lashing for most projects. This lashing is used to join two spars together, usually at a right angle, but not always.
Diagonal Lashing - When putting crossed braces on a structure to keep it from racking (as used when making a trestle), the most important lashing is the Diagonal Lashing where the spars cross.
