Blossom Pals is an online community of volunteers who share an interest in healing through gardening, or therapeutic horticulture. The space allows them to find volunteering opportunities, learn, and share experiences. The concept was developed for a class project that resulted from a group study done on urban community gardens.
The space uses a question-and-answer based format where volunteers post requirements to receive help from other members. The visual language has metaphors from the world of both gardening and healing. The gardening tools mean specific activities on the site (a watering can means healing or responding to a request, and a spade suggests planting a seed or posting a new request). The behaviours, colours and metaphors together are meant to depict a vibrant, helpful community that encourages volunteers spanning all skill and experience levels to interact with each other.
