The Brief:
We were each given a trend, either micro or macro. I was given the macro trend of 'The Flat Age Society.' Stemming from our given trend, we were to build a project in any direction.
The Concept:
The 'Flat Age' society is the name given to those 50 years of age onward. The general idea is that many are getting older yet remaining younger, with the older generations still being interested in travel, technology and keeping fit. They have much in common with millenials, yet they are often ignored by companies in their needs and advertising strategies. Instead of being targeted for being old, flat agers simply wish to be included in current trends.
I decided to focus on the travel aspect of flat agers. High disposable income and more free time means that more and more of the older generations are travelling further afield to destinations such as Burma and Bali. They have a lot in common with gap-year backpackers in that they wish to explore different places and cultures, yet prefer more luxurious hotels. There is currently no market to cater to this.
Therefore, I decided to create a travel company app, to include the Flat Agers in the modern technology trends. Wander is a social networking app, based around travel.
Users are able to discover countries that they or friends have visited. They are further able to discover information about that country (what to do, eat or see) from the app itself and from friends.
The travel company includes hotels in various locations which users are able to book holidays with. They can consult with friends, or further 'club' members (members with the app installed) to gain hotel reviews etc and create an itinerary for their trip, much like a 'build-your-own' approach. Whilst abroad, they can view any 'club members' who are nearby, if each members privacy settings allow them to do so.
