Project Description

The visual organization of a page or spread is controlled by typographic grids. They supply a particular structure that consists of margins, alleys, grid fields, and intersection points. Grids will force order into the layout and act as an orienting device enabling the reader to know where to look for information and to understand its relative importance. Our goal for this project was to design a feature article on a given photographer, that is interesting and dynamic while using the provided grids. My given photographer is Ryan McGinley. We continued to build off of our feature grid by creating another featured article of a different photographer, which I chose Mark Borthwick. Both photographers had a unique way with color which is what I focused on. For the final presentation of the two featured articles we have designed a 24 page magazine booklet that is gum bound. Along with 11 x 17 of our feature article with the baseline grid on to show that we used it to help with our layout design.
