Traveling to Agadez, Niger to record Bombino!!

Omara "Bombino" Moctar is an internationally acclaimed Tuareg guitarist and singer-songwriter from Agadez, Niger. In 2009 Ron Wyman asked me to record Omara at his house in Cambridge MA. Ron flew him to the US for a month, and we made some great recordings in Ron's home. After those sessions, we decided to record more songs, but in Africa, in his element, on his turf!

In January of 2010, I traveled with a small team to Agadez, Niger to record more songs, and we also recorded and filmed a concert staged in front of the ancient Grande Mosque of Agadez. Multitrack recording in such a remote desert region has many challenges, but I was able to return to the states with some great recordings. Agadez, released in April, 2011 debuted at the top of the iTunes World Chart for 6 weeks. #1 on Amazon in Europe for 5 weeks, and made NPR's Top 50 CD's of 2011.

I played bass and rythm guitars on all the tracks from the CD that were recorded in Agadez. I also mixed and mastered the CD
