Chinese and Japanese Typography | Zines

During Spring 2014, my graphic design colleagues Jessica Kao, Miyu Shirotsuka, Karin Yamauchi and I authored and designed a four-part zine titled C&J Type (Chinese and Japanese Typography) under the tutelage of CalArts faculty Caryn Aono. Through this semester-long self-initiated project, we researched the evolution of typography in Chinese and Japanese language and investigated the relationship between the both as well as with English. Our appreciation and passion on our mother-langauges have grown during this project and we hope this zine can spread the beauty of Chinese and Japanese typography to the western world.
The zines are divided into 4 chapters and each of us was responsible for the design of one. I was in charge of zine #1 on the formation of characters.
Zine #1 | The History of The Characters

Zine #2 | Contemporary Chinese Type
