50 Things About Me

Having received this as our first brief of the MA program, I sought about finding out the best ways in which to present data in a way that communicated each nugget of information clearly, but also that invited the audience to connect with the print in a familiar way. It was clear early on that my aim was to develop information design in a way that was engaging for a topic that held a high information density for abroad audience.
Having the final printed version of my 50 Things, I am happy with the outcome of my work. The poster is intended to appeal to a broad audience in a visually stimulating and coherent way and I believe it does that. The function is accurate.
I could have designed a subway map in any shape, but it has been given contextual relevance in the personification of its form.
The form of the actual circuit was difficult to perfect. At first, the body was very rigid, there was very little movement and it just seemed incredibly flat. After having given the hands, feet and head looped ends, as well as a geometric abdomen; I think the body comes to life a lot more than previously. My colour choices were selected by using bright colours in order to contrast the black background, which would hopefully enable the body to sit off the page a little more. I think I have achieved that well.
In terms of discourse or how the information is worded, some of the stations may take a little reading, but I wanted this to be an aesthetically led project rather than wordy. But again, I think nearly all of the station names should be self-explanatory.
