Le diable beau danseur / the handsome devil dancer

(1) There was a party in town on Mardi gras / And the man hosting it was Nicolas' father / It's well known that for the first day of lent / That we must all fast to celebrate Jesus' return (2) People ate, drank but especially danced / And as the good Christian this man was (3) He told to every single one of them / "At midnight, we stop everything"
(1) Everybody had a lot of fun, exept the son / Who, staying at his spot, couldn't wait for the night to be over (2) He was looking at Mathis from his spot in the corner / But everyone knew that there was something between these two for a long time (3) Everywhere in the room the old people were gossiping / "I swear that the devil will get that child" (4) And it's at about half an hour from the end / That a changer came on his horse (5) There was a snowstorm outside / And willing to give his family a good reputation (6) The host invited him to come in and remove his clothes / But he didn't want to remove his hat and gloves (7) "Correct" the host said without insisting too long / "Make yourself at home good sir and dance!"
(1) From his place in the corner, Nicolas has already spotted him (2) The stranger was quite tall actually, he wasn't hard to see (3) He didn't look really nice, for sure, it was an Englishman / But he was really handsone; not ugly at all (4) It didn't took long for he spotted Nicolas too (5) He clashed quite a lot: he was the only one who wasn't celebrating (6) The stranger gave him his hand as if for dancing (7) Then he said with no shame / "Be mine 'til next day" (8)  A man with a but of mind would have spat at his face (9) Instead of that, the younger one stood from his place and followed the Englishman, as if hypnotised / To the middle of the room where they danced
