Schuylkill Environmental Education Center

The Schuylkill Environmental Education Center was developed in response to helping Philadelphia understand the Schuylkill River's importance. It holds a living machine to filter and clean the river's water and giving the people of Philadelphia the hands on experience to get engaged to help keep their water clean.
Market Street Bridge is a compressive structure and to compliment and converse with its foces, I decided to create a tensile structure, which ended up being a similar to a suspension bridge. I wanted a tensile structure becasue to me they are the most dramatic and expressive form of structure, which is what was needed to express the point of the Market Street Bridge as a bridge. Its beautiful arched spans are completely missed because they are underneath the bridge, in creating the most obvious form of bridges it allows itas users to understand that there is more to crossing a bridge than what was seen before.
