Lineament Extentions

Part One: A Tonal Representation of a Human Figure.

The figure's pose was selected due to it's unique effect on the composition of the piece. It's placement in a non-traditional, circular, frame, was intended to suggest a stronger sense of movement. This specific figure is a dancer, caught mid-movement.  By combining all of these elements, I was able to create a dual tension. It is present in both the figure's relevance to the frame, and also in the relationship of the viewer and the dancer. The figure pushing the boundaries of the frame implies his attempt at freedom, and causes the viewer to wonder where he is intending to move next.
Part 2: A Sculpture of Part One.

This structure was created from the lines that a dancer's movements suggest on stage. Part 1 was the inspiration, with media and color directly transferred from image to sculpture. The image above guided me towards discovering a linear representation of the movement, and I used embroidery floss to reinforce the movement in a three-dimensional plane.
Part 3: A Painting of Part 2

In a return to two-dimensionality, I transferred the linear quality of the above sculpture to a painting. My focus was on the division of space created by the embroidery floss.
