Part One: A Tonal Representation of a Human Figure.
The figure's pose was selected due to it's unique effect on the composition of the piece. It's placement in a non-traditional, circular, frame, was intended to suggest a stronger sense of movement. This specific figure is a dancer, caught mid-movement. By combining all of these elements, I was able to create a dual tension. It is present in both the figure's relevance to the frame, and also in the relationship of the viewer and the dancer. The figure pushing the boundaries of the frame implies his attempt at freedom, and causes the viewer to wonder where he is intending to move next.
