Humble ISD is Top School District Heart Walk Team in Texas for second year in a row
Humble ISD has been named the Top School District Heart Walk Team in Texas by the American Heart Association for the second year in a row. The Humble ISD community came out to support the Greater Lake Houston Heart Walk on Saturday, November 8. The district's 45 campus teams raised a combined total of $38,757 for the American Heart Association, and team members participated in the event to promote walking as a healthy lifestyle. In 2013, Humble ISD raised $31,000.
“Humble ISD employees, parents, students and even mascots joined in support of the American Heart Association’s Heart and Stroke Walk,” said Amy Newman, Vice President, Youth Market, for AHA. “We are also so very proud of the district for maintaining its status as the number one fundraising school district in the state of Texas! Humble ISD has reached and overcome its first year results by raising nearly $40,000!”

Humble ISD Teams recognized for raising more than $1,000 included Whispering Pines Elementary, Atascocita Middle School, Kingwood Middle School, Atascocita High School, Kingwood High School, the Community Learning Center and the James D. Eggers Instructional Support Center.
Every walker and supporter made a positive difference. Overall, the 2014 Greater Lake Houston Heart and Stroke Walk brought in more than $157,000 raising funds and awareness for the fight against heart disease. Heath Rushing, a member of the Humble ISD Board of Trustees and Chief Operating Officer for Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, volunteered as 2014 Chair of the Greater Lake Houston Heart and Stroke Walk. “Heart disease and stroke are significant health risks,” Newman said. “Humble ISD is the true leader in joining with the community to bring this message directly to the residents.”
