Cranky Walrus is a Chapbook about the Dada movement and 4 artists, Max Ernst, Raoul Hausmann, Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray, from the movement. The goal of this chapbook was to capture the nonsense and spirit of the Dada movement, and display it in a professional way. I took apart collages and pieces done by the four artists and placed them in different orientations or mixed them with other works and based an internal grid and collum structure around each image. All display type was cut out from Dadaist type examples as well as other random ones and collaged together. Large collages inspired by Dadaism were created with modern twists for break pages. All body copy is set in Idealist Sans, which is a clean sans serif, to offset the nonsense.
