Working in small groups, design an artifact or system that brings the xd studio together as a community. Results can live online or physically exist in the xd grad studio.

 

The research phase began with exploring common traits and interests among the class.

Based on several students’ interest in art and drawing, our group drew inspiration from community art projects like the “Before I Die…” project, in which members of a community contribute personal aspirations to a large public chalkboard. We wanted something that was informal, impermanent, and fun to contribute to.

Using chalkboard paint, we chose a wall in the studio and created a space for the drawing wall. We used vinyl letters to designate the title of the project.

The final outcome is a chalkboard wall in the studio for creating collaborative drawings prompted by a randomly chosen word. Before a drawing is erased, a photo is posted to the group’s tumblr: http://drawntogetherxd.tumblr.com/.
