I wanted to get away from such an amount of stress on content and narritive in my pictures and focus on the sorroundng features of my paintings. The pure areas of abstract colour and expression in painting. It's the only areas of the picture when I have to reference nothing or concentrate my all in replicating or appropriating another image. Your painting is set free when you work from nothing except your imagination. The result is to me always abstract, or if it isnt, it should be. It should be nothing, and everything.
So in a sense, I was taking 2 steps forward by accessing new types of painting for myself, and one step back, literally stripping back the work to its more primitive self. I find that this is new to me and is only just beginning.
