Recovering the Classics: Frankenstein

This was a book cover project for my illustration for graphic design class. The assignment was to pick a novel from a list of classics on The Creative Action Networks "Recovering the Classics." to really be able to see how applicable illustrations can be.

I love the book Frankenstein (its arguably the first science fiction novel) but due to the old slow groaning Neanderthal-ish movie monster stereotype, the majority of the general populace has no idea what a great character Frankenstein's Monster was.

He was thoughtful, intelligent and deadly and he was much more grotesque looking than just having a bunch of stitches and green yellow skin. The book actually describes his skin being slightly translucent so his muscles and veins are seen underneath. With my book cover I wanted to stay true to the book's depiction of Frankenstein's monster but add an elongated window frame and symbolic imagery to also convey the gothic theme of the story.
If you wish to buy my bookcover on an actual copy of Frankenstein or get a poster print just clickthe link here.
