LOUNGE CHAIR

This lounge chair is designed to be a part of Gustav Stickley’s collection as a branded project.

This project started by the desire to create a furniture piece that represented the midpoint between Modernism and the Arts and Crafts movement. With this in mind, it became necessary to integrate a more modern brand such as Schindler and create a Stickley-Schindler blend.

Designing for Schindler meant taking pointers from its simplistic, machine-made method. This was later combined with an extreme contrast: the hand-made, rustic design language true to the Stickley brand.

By integrating these two ideas, I made certain design choices that balanced both aesthetics. An example, would be how the joints of the chair are strategically placed and revealed to not only emphasize the structural keypoints, but also to fit within Stickly's design brand.
