My jewelry is influenced by the concept of beauty and is motivated by the qualities of metal. My work is meticulous and organized, these qualities reflect strength and stability. The designs arise from one of the most basic elements in art, the line. My work is composed of lines that vary in scale, form and angle. By the use of wire, I explore the simplicity of linear elements and natural curves to create rhythm and movement. Geometric shapes emerge in the structure of my work.
I am attracted to the inherit qualities of sterling silver and exploit those characteristics through polishing and refined surfaces. Stones are also utilized to provoke an essential feature of elegance, value, and sophistication. Their position creates balance within each composition. All together, these elements and materials create well crafted intimate jewelry.
"The Meaning of Different Kinds of Lines"
Thin lines are fragile and they convey an elegant quality.
Thick lines suggest strength and give emphasis to nearby elements.
Horizontal lines suggest calm and quiet, a relaxed comfort.
Vertical lines are filled with potential energy, they are strong and rigid.
Diagonal lines are unbalanced and filled with uncontrolled energy.
Curved lines are softer than straight lines. Curved lines express fluid movement. They can be calm or dynamic depending on how much they curve.
Zigzag lines create excitement and intense movement.
Lines could create the surface and represent the scratch.
