Safety Guide for children

Significance of the project
My project hopes to act as a guide to children under age of 10-12 years about the difficulties in their daily life. The emphasis is on making children responsible and if given a situation, how to react to it. Thus house being the first place where children spend most of their time apart from school and other classes, is the equally accident prone place. Although home is supposed to be one of the safest places, various incidents occur within it which can be dangerous and children can be potential victims of home accidents.

Thus there is a need to create awareness of this fact in the minds of children as well as parents.

Mind mapping
Considering my topic in mind, I brainstormed on it. I categorized according to the types of families, types of houses, different areas in a house which can be a cause of an accident and types of injuries etc. Initially I noted all the points and later categorized them.

Brainstorming
After talking to concerned people, teachers and parents, looking at the current school books it was necessary to look at all the information I had and segregate it according to different categories. So I did my second part of brainstorming considering all the stakeholders related to my topic.

Selecting the right medium
My message was very simple. I need to make children aware of the hazards lying in their house and educate them for responsibly tackling them. So I chose to incorporate Activity pages in front and back of long notebooks like Navneet, Classmate, Bilt etc. There were various following points for opting this medium:

- A child can carry the book wherever he/she wants.
- The first and the last page can be perforated so that after using the book,
he/she an tear it off and keep it with them for further reference.
- The child does not have to buy specially a different book to get aware
  of the hazards.
- The information can be given in interesting way of puzzles and small
  activities that children can solve.
- Each book will have a different hazard information which the child can
read as well as solve and tear the page and keep with him.
- Also there can be supplementary stationary attached with the book like
  bookmarks, stickers, pocket calender etc.
- It has a recall value. There is an engagement factor involved and also
the reach of this product is high because every child buys a long book for
  there academic use.

The Final Book!!!
For the first book, the area selected was 'Fire Safety'. But there can be various relevant topics for creating awareness.

After all the research, surveys, interactions with different people and understanding
children and their behavioral patterns towards the topic 'Safety', I have come up with
final product and I hope it will help children understand important topic of fire safety in interesting way.
