I'm a big fan of "The Song Of Ice and Fire" and I've got an idea to create a series of works dedicated to this saga. This is the first set.
I wanted to stylize the original motto and sigil using calligraphy, introducing character and some features to letter forms.
House Baratheon's sigil is a crowned black stag on a field of gold, their motto is "Ours Is The Fury". Members of this House are known to be quite straightforward and powerful and apply to force rather than to mind, thus letters and strokes are made in a rude way.

One of main characters, Stannis Baratheon, adopted R'hllor faith and made its symbol — fiery heart — his sigil. A common phrase in prayers to R'hllor is "For the night is dark and full of terrors". I've tried to make letters fiery and monstrous at the same time.
House Greyjoy has a lot in common with the vikings: they live on islands, their life is strongly connected to the sea, they have a cult of robbery and strength. Their sigil is a golden kraken on a black field, and their house motto is "We Do Not Sow." I've tried to combine tentacles and scandinavian elements in letters forming the body and created a suitable pattern to make everything else.
