King St. Ladislaus cranial and facial reconstruction

St. Ladislaus
(1046-1095)
Hungarian King
In the summer of 2012 in the Hungarian University of Fine Arts I joined as one of the volunteers to the Artistic Anatomy, Geometry and Projection Department St. Ladislaus cranial and facial reconstruction project. I finished with nine drawings till the end of september, wich are represents the reconstructed skull and face with and with out facial hair. Phase three per view.

A year after the end of the project I decided to prepare the three dimensional models of the face of St. Ladislaus, proving to myself that I could recreate the 3D face from anatomically correct drawings.

During the craniofacial reconstruction, in case of the drawings I tried to make an ethically appropriate lifelike visualisation, based on the deductable details of the skull. I tried to avoid presenting details, about which we have no information. Visualization of these details, such as expression lines, texture and colour of the skin, weight, hair, moustache and wattle is not possible from a professional aspect - for the same reason I did not represent the look, so that the character and impression can be more dominant. Attention is not diverted to the fine details, which could be misleading and would drive us further away from the truth.
I finished with the computer animation in 2013 December, thus completed my aim.

Shortly thereafter, the project was handed the Barcsay contest, which enrolled the jury. They handed over the Barcsay prize at the exhibition opening ceremony.
