OZCHI is the annual conference for the Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group (CHISIG) of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia, a non-profit event. The teams are provided with a time period of 24 hours to come up with a solution to a given HCI research problem.
Problem Statement: Designing for a serendipitous experience.
The design concept we proposed recognizes the limitations and inefficiency of present unseen linking and tagging systems that seem to direct users to web pages. The aim is to provide the users with such specific information that seems to re-create serendipity, and further affords the user to wander in virtual space to making discoveries – thereby bringing back the joy of unplanned surfing. We were judged on the basis of: quality of our design process; use of user-centered design methods and theory; and quality, innovation and originality of our design.
Our team won runner-up prize (3rd among 25 teams from 10 different countries) & we were invited to present our project at the conference.
