Train of Thought

The Train of Thought project was born of boredom and a sense of newness and a struggle to fit in where I don't feel I belong. When riding the trains of New York City for the first time, it was hard to control my excitement. After all, I'd worked my whole life to get here, and now that was a reality. However, reality isn't always fluffy kittens and butterflies.

I quickly found that, in the circle of people I am surrounded by, I am an oddity. And no one was truly willing to take a leap into my world. Thus began my journey of exploration in NYC. I'd jump on the train to go somewhere I'd never been and just wander, take pictures, and imagine. The train rides to and from my destinations were so boring, that I took to sketching whatever was on my mind, just to pass the time. Before, I knew it, I had a pretty decent collection.

However, when I showed the sketches to my circle of friends, the reaction was lukewarm, at best. Hiding my disappointment, I trudged on. I documented my lonely adventures through the city with no one to witness it but me. As you can imagine, that got old... quickly.

So I decided that I'd take my sketches and doodles, turn some of them into full-blown paintings, and put on a show. This event would be an opportunity for me to share, not just a bunch of finished pieces with art lovers, but to let them into my process, into my mind and thoughts, and to share the raw emotions that lead to the beautiful works we artists create.

Here is a sampling of some of the sketches I've completed on the trains during my adventures.

I will update the images and other information about the show as more details become available. I hope you will support me as I try to find my place in this city of dreams.
Wayward, but Not Lost

At around this time, the paintings started to evolve a bit. I went from using just ink to experimenting with pencils. The results are below.

This one will be on exhibit at the University Art Gallery, Frick Fine Arts Building at the Universityof Pittsburgh from November 9 - December 11, 2015.
For those who have made it this far, I thank you.  Please, continue to support me as I navigate this lonely, crowded, city. I really appreciate it.

Sincerely,
