Description of Artwork

Living in a flora-rich country in my entire life, I have been slowly intrigued by the enchanting nature as I grow. Day by day and year by year, I stop doing anything and look around me for ideas. The flowers, the trees, the greens. I find their layered patterns beautiful. I find their tall greeneries majestic. From the entire pot of flower to the whole mass of rainforest, I see them as an independent community. The fondness I have on the natural world has eventually become my inspiration when looking for new ideas for an artwork.

Floral pattern – something that I have grown fond of ever since I take into account my affinity towards the natural world. This artwork is indirectly interrelated to my current ongoing project called The Exotic Floral Design. This project idea started when I decided to design my own floral patterns, of which later the consistency in repetitive pattern is maintained with the use of geometry. How amazing it is when I learned the microscopic pattern in plants also involves the mathematics phenomenon called fractals which demonstrates a repetitious order of pattern.

In the illustration, a small humble five-petal flower is drawn in the centre with the petals simply decorated with dots. The flower is layered with another one underneath it, and another, and gradually forms a bigger five-petal flower. From one simple flower, it blooms into another and bigger one – like how a plain drawing can bloom into a greater masterpiece. This shows how our mind usually works during the phase of producing something, in this case an artwork. A timid idea can eventually turn into a greater one without one realising it. Within each primary petal lie various other plants which indicate the hidden ideas we sometime overlooked.

The appearance of lingering vine is sometime deemed as restriction to the growth of a plant, beside itself having the ability to grow. This shows how a poor idea could give another constructive concept with continuous inspiration. I tend to get demotivated at an unconvincing design, however in most of the time; it gradually grows into something more fruitful after gaining a new idea.

All in all, this Exotic Floral Design illustrates my idea of how the natural world usually facilitates my phase of manufacturing ideas for an artwork. Thus, I named this floral design, The Affinity, which simply means my fondness towards the nature.
