Samuel "Babydude" Yager is the mastermind behind the experimental music project known as BIRTHDAYS. In 2012 Sammy asked me to design the cover of the self-titled BIRTHDAYS EP. I wanted to create something that was personal to Sammy, but also captured the music's joyous and visceral pulse. The final result blended Sammy's love for the cosmos and pizza.
The EP was released on cassette by EVERYDAYISAMIXTAPE, and was voted the 10th best album of 2012 by Impulse magazine.
Since the album's release Sammy was caught in a bad bicycle accident, which put him in a coma. Incredibly, Sammy pulled through, and has been making a steady recovery. Watching Sammy's progress has been intensely emotional and inspirational. I personally cannot wait for the return of BIRTHDAYS, and I hope you listen to his tunes as they are sure to get your booty moving.
This is a poster designed by my friend Faye Orlove for Emily Reo and Cuddle Formation's 2013 tour. Both bands were Sammy's friends and helped raise money for his medical expenses.
