One in five elderly persons in Singapore exhibit signs of depression. They seek companionship from family and friends. But after an elderly person falls, she tends to stay at home alone with their family and/or helper, implicating that social support which is vital for preventing depression is significantly reduced.
inSight seeks to change this by enabling social support for the lonely, the struggler, and the silent from the comfort of home with digital technology.
From our insights, we generated ideas that have strong semantic links with the elderlies’ daily lives. Photos are a big part of their lives because they enable them to be connected spiritually and emotionally with their families, friends, and their memories.
We thought, what if these photo frames did not contain static images of stale memories? What if these frames had live updates of the lives of the loved ones? What if these were portals that could enable you to connect with another simultaneously in real time?
inSight is our take on achieving social wellness for the elderly via digital means.
