Film Assets - Seven - Native Youth Film Project

The Best Summer Job I'll Ever Have
The Summer of 2014 was one of the best ever. I was given the oppurtunity by my brother Matthew Calder, the Literacy Worker at the United Native Friendship Centre in Fort Frances, and my cousin Terril Calder, an award winning Metis filmmaker, to oversee and assist in the creation of a film. We advertised the project to local Native Youth. While we had a lot of interest in the project, we ended up with only 2 youth to stick with us through their entire summer making this film.
It was a fantastic experience for all three of us. We all got a lot of experience in Adobe programs, using the Creative Cloud to filter our work through multiple programs. We also created cool props by moulding our faces in Dragon Skin, as well as making a Buffalo mask out of chicken wire and an old carpet.
Stop Frame Animation Assets
Our film had the spirits of many animals in it, which we used stop frame animation to put in the film. I created vectored versions of each animal to animate. We would print off each individual layer of the animals, carefully cut them out, then piece them together with some wire and sticky tack.
