Maboneng, meaning ‘Place of Light’, is a privately developed urban neighborhood on the east side of Johannesburg CBD. A fully fledged thriving community, Maboneng is home to several independent retail, restaurants and entertainment venues as well as loft apartments, offices, hotel, a museum and creative factory spaces in a connected urban environment.
A varsity project where we needed to design, create and explore a realistic working wayfinding system for the Maboneng Precinct area in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition to the wayfinding system I have also created a mobile application that works seamlessly with the wayfinding system to improve the overall user experience when visiting the area.
This is the home screen of the Maboneng Application. Clear, to the point and easy to use.
Genral signage within buildings indicate where galleries, shops and offices are. Signage like this will be placed inside every building within the Maboneng area aiding users to reach their end destinations

This is the main signage that will be placed within the Maboneng area. It indicates in which part of Maboneng the user is as well as list every shop, gallery and bar within the area. This signage also indicates the general direction of other areas within the Maboneng area.
