O Auto da Barca do Inferno (ou Auto da Moralidade) é uma complexa alegoria dramática de Gil Vicente, representada pela primeira vez em 1517. Cada personagem discute com o Diabo e com o Anjo para qual das barcas entrará. No final, só os Quatro Cavaleiros e o Parvo entram na Barca da Glória (embora este último permaneça toda a ação no cais, numa espécie de Purgatório), todos os outros rumam ao Inferno (ao Judeu, por não se querer separar do bode que levava consigo, não lhe é permitido sequer entrar na Barca do Inferno -- este vai "à toa", ou seja, vai dentro de água, agarrado à barca por uma corda). O Parvo fica no cais, o que nos transmite a ideia de que era uma pessoa bastante simples e humilde, mas que havia pecado. O principal objectivo pelo qual fica no cais é para animar a cena e ajudar o Anjo a julgar as restantes personagens, é como que uma 2ª voz de Gil Vicente. A presença ou ausência do Parvo no Purgatório aquando do fim da peça acaba por ser pouco explícita, uma vez que esta acaba com a entrada dos Cavaleiros na barca do Anjo sem que existissem quaisquer outros comentários do Anjo ou do Parvo sobre o seu destino final.

The Auto da Barca do Inferno (or Self Morality) is a complex dramatic allegory of Gil Vicente, first performed in 1517. Each character argues with the Devil and the Angel of the boats which come to. In the end, only the Four Horsemen and the Parvo enter Barca da Glória (although the latter remains all the action on the pier, in a kind of purgatory), all others are headed to Hell (the Jew, for not wanting to separate the goat that brought with him, is not allowed to even enter the Barca do Inferno - will this "wonder", ie going in the water, clinging to the boat by a rope). The Parvo is in the dock, which conveys the idea that it was a very simple and humble person, but that he had sinned. The main objective for which is in the dock is to animate the scene and help the Angel judging the other characters, is like a 2nd voice of Gil Vicente. The presence or absence of Parvo in Purgatory at the end of the play turns out to be little explicit, since it ends with the entry of the Knights of the Angel in the boat that there were no other comments from the Angel or Parvo on your final destination.
