This poster was created by me for the Digital Imaging class during the Spring Semester of 2013, my first year of University.
The title of my poster is ‘Coming Home’. It shows two hands, the second receiving a pair of dog tags, the identification tags worn by all soldiers, by the first hand. Who are those people? The first hand belongs to an army officer, as the viewer can tell by his uniform and his officer’s hat which is held underneath his armpit. He is giving the dog tags to a woman. That woman is the mother of a soldier who died in action. When a soldier dies, his dog tags are returned to his family.
The title is ironic, which I wanted because of the lies told by politicians to ship soldiers overseas to fight and die without no good reason, as was witnessed recently with the Iraqi war and operation ‘Enduring Freedom’. The social problem i chose is, of course, the disrespect and the lack of value towards the human life by our leaders. Since the War on Terror started in 2001, 500 American soldiers died every year. The message I am trying to convey is simple. Heroes are not disposable.
