The student is required to develop the packaging for a basic cheese, which will be sold in major supermarkets in a slab form, in the dairy section of the refrigerators. An existing pack format may be used or a new format may be proposed. The packaging should stand out in the dairy fridges of the supermarket, act as a silent salesman on the shelf and clearly communicate the nutritional and other attributes of the cheese. It should create a positive experience for the consumer, fit well into their home fridge and be easy to open and seal.

Saxonshire is a flavourful layered cheese that has a dramatic appearance and sharp taste. It is also known as the Five Counties Cheese because of the different cheeses that make up its five layers - Double Gloucester, Red Leicester, Lancashire, White Cheddar, and Cheddar. It is the ideal cheese for platters and cheese boards.

This is a common phrase but very few people know its origin or meaning. There are five versions of the brand mark - each showing a different phase of the moon. This also represents the five layers of the cheese. The packaging includes an interesting folk tale about the moon being made of cheese as well as the name of the phase of the moon represented.

The packaging is designed to be displayed on the cheese platter. The black and gold create a feeling of elegance but also mimic the colours of the cheese and its wax. The actual material is a Folding Box Board with UV offset printing, combination stamping (gold foil embossing) with a Film Lamination finish. This will ensure the cheese is protected and the packaging is suitable for a fridge but still elegant.
