SPOTLIGHT

I think Alan Watts was right when he said that there are two kinds of consciousness. One that could be called “Spotlight” and the other referred to as “Floodlight.”

“Spotlight” Consciousness is a distinctive perceptual process in which people deliberately put conscious attention to what they desire to and set aside other perceptions or viewpoints.

On the other hand, “Floodlight” Consciousness is working all the time on the background whether people notice it or not, and every cell, every nerve ending that we have are its instruments.

This photographic project represents my Spotlight Consciousness. It is a glimpse at how I perceive the world around us and what details I tend to focus on. I photograph my selective perceptions as a form of conscious attention, “Spotlight Consciousness.” However, when I do so, I do not identify myself with that form of consciousness alone, I see beyond my “Spotlight” and always thrive to be fully aware of  “Floodlight”, a far greater part of cosmic Consciousness.
