The Problem
56% of young Wellington renters don’t have enough food and water stored for 3 days and 80% don’t have a plan in case of emergency. Tthe main reasons given for why they aren't better prepared are that they don’t know what they need in a kit, they lack the motivation to make one or they don’t have the money to buy a full kit themselves.
Our Fix
The Set is a 72 hour personal emergency kit which guides students and young professionals through the stages of getting prepared. The Set includes a storage box, first aid kit, LED torch, Emergency pamphlet, set of playing cards, shopping list and 7 prompt cards which arrive fortnightly in the mail.
Instead of fear mongering, we at The Set want to create a fun, proactive feeling towards making a kit and planning for an emergency. Not only does The Set help young renters fill up their box with the food and water they will need to be physically set, it also prompts them to talk with their flatmates and make plans for in the event of an emergency. By giving our audience the tools to create their own emergency kits, they are able to focus on the mental preparation and take ownership of their emergency preparedness.
