Lest we Forget - 100 Years since The Great War

Design Brief
In rememberance of 100 years since the start of the first world war MigSolv wanted to show their respects to those who sacrificed their lives during the war. Below is the concept and design I came up with.
Social Media Image
This image was created for use on social media. The ghost of a soldier standng in a field of poppies looking into the distance of many graves and the current day landscape that appears in the clouds. The concept was to put more emphasis and be so litereal that the poppies represent many graves with the soldier looking very contempaltive.

What would the soldier think of our world today? What would they think of their sacrifice? Our we as grateful as we should be for what they gave up ?

Also, above the shard is a bi-plane representing the idea of freedom of movement through the air which may not have been possible should the two wars have finished differently.

The typography chosen was chosen firstly the solid cold lines of source sans pro reflects the coldness of war and the text below it is a handwriting style 'Selya' to never forget that they are not just a number but real people with real families.

Lest we forget
Website remembrance
The website's slideshow moves to show the story of the past and the concept of what would the future have been without their sacrifices attempting to make the view contemplate just what has happened in the past.
