Kinesthesia Teaser

KINESTHESIA started as a Hyper Island student's group project. It is an interactive audio-visual experiment developed for the exhibition Fluorescent Space Vibration on October 14th, 2014.

The word "kinesthesia" refers to the perception of movements of one's body; it's relationship to, not only it's limbs and muscles, but also the space and objects around it. We wanted to explore that sense of bodily movement and connect it to the senses of seeing and hearing, creating an experience where you not only can hear music but also feel it, almost touch it.

How does it work?
Kinesthesia uses the Microsoft Kinect to track the users movements, translating the position of hands and arms
into data for Ableton Live. Each possible movement is mapped to a certain button, slider or knob in an array of effects making the slightest movement instantaneously recognizable and creating a sense of real control of the senses.
