Perforated Pattern:
The Caged Bird:
“The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.”
-Maya Angelou
I created a new document and using the grid added two elliptical shapes onto the document.
I then added another layer and using the shift-delete added black to fill the shapes. I made a negative of the shapes and then inversed them.
I created another layer with 50% gray.
I then defined a pattern and named it.
I then created a new document and filled the background with black and created a new layer with the background 50% gray.
I added a pattern overlay and chose the pattern previously created. I dropped the scaling down to 20%.
Using the blending options, I changed the opacity slider to 0 px.
I then converted the layer to a smart object and opened a crinkled sheet of paper pattern that I downloaded. I then added a patter overlay, set the mode to overlay and bumped the scale to 125%.
I clicked on gradient overlay in the styles list on the left. This will help add some dramatic lighting to the texture. I set the blend mode to multiply, chose radial from the style pop-up menu and turned on the reverse checkbox. I set the angle to 160 and increased the scale to 125%.
I then clicked on bevel and emboss and dropped the size down to 5 px.
To add the dove texture, I duplicated the smart object layer and using the layer style selected the woven wide pattern.
Selecting the dove shape, I placed it on top of the caged background. Using the blending options, I then adjusted the bevel and emboss, angel and size.
